Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction

What is Spiritual Direction?

The term spiritual direction is rather misleading as a person is not directed as such. Some people prefer to call it spiritual accompaniment. A spiritual director has normally undergone at least three years part time training. Spiritual direction is the practice of being with people as they attempt to listen to God in their daily lives and deepen their relationship with Him. The directee shares what they wish of their experiences and in particular what has been important in their prayer time.  The director facilitates the directee’s process of reflection and spiritual growth whilst maintaining God at the centre. This in turn focuses awareness of the movement of God in the directee’s life and creates  an openness to God’s will. The director might suggest different ways of praying to enhance the prayer experience.

How often would I see my spiritual director?

Generally spiritual direction is monthly for an hour.

How long does it go on for?

The Trellis Trust offers six sessions.

How much does it cost?

The full rate is about £25-35 per hour. The Trellis suggests at least £10 according to what you can afford. However no one would be denied this because they were unable to pay.
